Reserved Instance Planner
Python script analyzing 90 days of EC2 On-Demand usage to recommend 1-year vs 3-year RI purchases with break-even calculations.
Reserved Instance Planner
RI purchases feel risky because the math is tedious to get right. This script pulls 90 days of your actual EC2 On-Demand usage via Cost Explorer and tells you exactly which instance types to reserve, whether a 1-year or 3-year term makes sense, how long until break-even, and the total projected savings over the term.
What Is Included
A Python script that identifies your consistently-running instance types, pulls On-Demand pricing, fetches current RI prices via the AWS Pricing API, and runs the break-even math for both term lengths. Output is a ranked buy list with payback period and 1-year / 3-year savings projections.
Developer Experience
- Configurable analysis window (default 90 days)
- Filters out spot instances and autoscaling spikes automatically
- Outputs a ranked recommendation list — prioritize by savings impact
- CSV export for sharing with finance teams
