Idle Resource Finder Script
Bash and AWS CLI script scanning all regions for unattached EBS volumes, unused Elastic IPs, stopped instances, and idle load balancers.
Idle Resource Finder Script
Forgotten resources are a quiet tax on your AWS bill. This Bash script scans every region in your account for the most common offenders: unattached EBS volumes, unassociated Elastic IPs, stopped instances older than 7 days, and load balancers with no healthy targets.
What Is Included
A single Bash script using only the AWS CLI. It iterates over all enabled regions, queries each resource type, and prints a clean summary with estimated monthly waste. No IAM roles or infrastructure required — just your existing credentials.
Developer Experience
- Zero dependencies beyond AWS CLI v2
- Runs in minutes against accounts with hundreds of resources
- Color-coded output with per-region totals
- Safe — read-only, no changes made
What You Get
find-idle-resources.shREADME.md
Requirements
AWS CLI v2, credentials with EC2 and ELB read permissions across all regions. Run from any shell.
